Waking Up With a Song in My Heart!

I downloaded this book over a year ago when it was available for my Kindle. I used it every morning as the beginning to my devotional time throughout the entire year of 2012. Mr Morgan is an amazing researcher, historian and musician who knows his stuff. This book spoke to my heart in ways I never expected, and as time passed I found myself looking forward with anticipation to the song coming next. It's a great way to begin each morning! Some of the songs are so buried in time that I didn't know them at all, but others dropped their message and notes into my heart and I hummed them all day long. I highly recommend this book for its brief (5 minutes or less) devotional thoughts and charming reminder of the hymns of my growing up years!

This book has shown me so many new hymns & writers about whom I had not known. It brings a wealth of historical Christian worship to the seeker. Refreshing! The hardest part is trying to share the hymns with friends & family. Some are available online; for others I was unable to find the additional stanzas mentioned in the book, or the melodies.

Most inspiring and eye opening book I've ever read!

I think every teenage girl should read this book. Because honestly, all of us are obsessed with SOMETHING. For me it was softball and my body. You have to learn to give all your worries and troubles over to God. When you live a God obsessed life the others can see his spirit through you. I absolutely love this book!!!

I went through this book with my friend's teen daughter. Great tool for discussion. She has a chronic health condition, and this book was great for learning how to deal with that in a healthy way. I would definitely recommend this to other teens!

I'm 61 years old and I saw myself in almost every page-in the way I have beed obsessed with not one but two women I have known 30 and 40 years ago. This book helped me more that the dozen others I have read over the years in dealing with my behaviour and the obsessive personality that destroys relationships. Read the book and take notes as you go through it and confront yourself as to the things that define who you are and why you are that way. There really is a reason why your behaviour scares people way from you.

Fantastic Inspirational Book

I just finished Lynette Easton's sequel to her To Close to Home and while To Close to Home was great, Don't Look Back was even better. It kept my interest from the start to the end, in fact even while having to work a lot I did finish her book in four days.

Lynette writes with passion, details and a story that brings out all the emotions as you read. What I like most is that she has such an inspirational story that weaves throughout the book about our Lord Jesus Christ.

I have had the pleasure of corresponding with Lynette via email and she is such a nice lady and has offered some excellent advise and nice to see a reachable person even in what has to be such a busy schedule.

I highly recommend her latest book but to get the real impact of Don't Look Back make sure to read the first book To Close to Home.

Good suspense

This book was fast-paced and I didn't want to put it down. It definitely kept my attention as far as the plot and action went. As far as the romance department it wasn't great, but romance isn't the primary category/direction for this series, so I wasn't expecting it to be really romantic.

However, there were some things that bothered me. Such as the fact that I was able to figure out who the "bad guy" was almost as soon as they introduced the person into the story. (But, in the very end there was a twist that surprised me, and I liked that.) I don't know if most people will be able to figure it out, or if it was just obvious to me.

There were also times when I was a little confused about small things. It seemed like some more information might have been introduced to make things clearer. But, these were small, scene related issues, not big things like the over all plot.

Sometimes, it was a little far-fetched when the characters would do something that seemed obviously stupid to me, and I'm not even a cop. SPOILERS>> Like when they said that the stalker was probably someone that Jamie worked with, but they never looked into that idea. Or when they thought that he was in the building and they left Jamie alone with only one agent to protect her! (If they thought that he was in the building, why would they go outside to look at his car rather than sending someone to check for them?) Little things like that made it less realistic to me.

I Wish I Didn't Need This Incredible Book!

I saw only one review with a poor rating, saying that because of the humorous title and picture, they thought this book would be "light-hearted and funny". HA.
For those of us with a truly difficult loved one in our lives, we know all too well that, "This @#! Ain't Funny!"
This book explains, in no uncertain terms, how relationships with people we love become skewed and unbelievably painful.
It takes two people to create a dysfunctional relationship, but only one to diffuse it, or to change the power dynamic.
This book has examples, tools, and blue-prints (as it were) for changing your relationship and making your life better and more importantly, joyful again.
If there is a relationship in your life that is hurting you, and you need help in turning it around OR help in deciding whether or not the relationship is worth keeping, I can't recommend this book highly enough. And if your distress caused you to look at this book in the first place, I wish you emotional freedom, and all the happiness you really do deserve.

A book to help everyone

Everyone should read this book because every one of us will find himself or herself within its pages. I was surprised at how much of my own behavior I saw there. I was equally surprised at how many times she exactly described something I had done or seen someone else do. Above all else,the author gives hope. I come away feeling better about myself and believing that no matter how difficult the person is, there is a way to live happy and successfully, and a way to change the negative to the good. This is a marvelous book and I highly recommend it.

A very satisfying read

"Paper Roses" by Amanda Cabot is one of the best historical books I've read. I was immediately drawn into the story with its believable characters. After a family tragedy, Sarah Dobbs wants to protect her young sister. She follows her heart to Texas to become a mail-order bride, only to find her dream shattered by another tragedy.

Clay, the brother of her dead fiancé, offers her passage back to Philadelphia. Sarah shows her independent spirit by taking a job and forming a new life for her and her sister. In her new surroundings, Sarah is challenged to put the past behind her and forgive her father's mistakes. Clay also struggles with his painful losses. He is determined to find out who murdered his brother and seek vengeance.

The mystery element in this story was intriguing. I liked the way this book kept me guessing at who the killer might be, and the ending had a surprising twist.

"Paper Roses" was a very satisfying read, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Trial, testing, and triumph in Texas town

In Amanda Cabot's "Paper Roses," Sarah Dobbs is leaving behind her life in Philadelphia to make a new start in San Antonio, TX, as a mail-order bride to a man she's never met. Upon arrival she learns that her fiancé has been murdered, the killer unknown, and she is offered temporary lodging with his brother, Clay, and his father. But mysteries abound. Who killed Clay's brother and why? Why is Sarah leaving Philadelphia and what sorrow lurks in her past? Why is Clay so sullen and bitter around Sarah? And why does he seem so set against her? Who is responsible for the thefts in neighboring ranches?

Set in the 1850's with ranches, horses and wagons, a sheriff, and French and German immigrants, the plot moves along with page-turning suspense, uncovering heartache and revealing the prospect of faith, forgiveness, and second chances. With a cast of believable characters and a few well-turned twists in the plot, this story comes well recommended. I give it five stars.

A Christian historical romance which fell flat for me.

In 1856 Sarah Dobbs travels with her two year old sister from Philadelphia to Ladreville, Texas, to marry Austin Canfield. From the standpoint of being a mail-order bride Sarah was very fortunate indeed. Her prospective bridegroom was willing to accept Sarah in spite of her having the complete care of her sister Thea and a physical handicap. Sarah thought herself very lucky indeed until Clay Canfield arrived and told her that his brother could not marry her because Austin had been murdered.

First, this is a Christian novel. Not just some mentions of faith or religion, but a novel where faith in God plays an all important role. If that is not to your liking, this is probably not the book for you. I was not aware of that aspect of this novel when I chose it, but was interested to see what role those guiding tenets would play in the structure of the book. Both main characters, Sarah and Clay, have either lost their faith or never had a strong faith to begin with. Clay has a very hard time understanding why everyone he loves is taken from him and Sarah is consumed with anger and hate about the circumstance which caused her to have to leave Philadelphia and seek a new life. The faith based ideas of this novel were very well written by Amanda Cabot.

I liked the fact that the story takes place in a part of Texas which was very heavily settled by immigrants from France and Germany. That gave this story an unusual aspect which is not found that often in American historical romances. Finding a way to bring these two factions together in this new land was an interesting process to watch and the author did a really fine job with that. There has been one murder and someone is involved in malicious pranks and theft which is pitting neighbor against neighbor, French against German. It seems that traveling all the way to America did not resolve the centuries of animosity which existed between these two nationalities. Sarah plays a large role in helping heal some of those divides.

What I didn't particularly like about the novel was primarily the two main characters. I never managed to feel any real connection for either of them, no sympathy or empathy. I understand that this was a Christian romance, but that did not mean that there could not have been romantic tension between these characters. They were bland to the point of boredom for me.

The theme of the mail-order bride is a real hot button for me, I absolutely love that premise because it signifies the determination and independence of spirit necessary for both bride and groom to make a success of what must have been a terrifying situation. These two characters both had some good qualities, but without that fire-bright spark of romance their story fell rather flat for me.

Loaded with communication tips and tools!

I am so glad this book was written. It is not an easy task to always be able to get a point across but learning how, when and why really makes a difference. Johnson is straight to the point with a bit of humor, his writing style is easy to read and full of 'ah ha' moments! This is a great book for women seeking to choose a 'good man', especially helpful to divorced women re-entering the dating world and a real gift to the new bride! Myself, married more then 25 years found it to be refreshing and uplifting. Thanks!

A Whole New View

This book was amazing! It offers amazing insight into the qualities that constitute a good man and a good father, particularly to those of us who weren't blessed to have that role model as a child. It helped me to understand what to value and expect, as well as what to seek after in raising my sons. This is a must have for any woman who is still looking for the love of her life or for the woman who has him and thinks things could be even better. There is something for everyone.

Do you want to positively influence your husband? This book explores how to communicate better with him and change your marriage. You will learn ways to encourage him and build his self-esteem. By following the guidelines in this book you will have a more supportive and happy husband.

Although a man wrote this book, it is primarily for a woman to read. As you read this insightful book you may disagree with some of what is written. However, there are many principles to apply to your everyday interaction with the man in your life. There is advice on how to encourage him to be the leader in your family. The author advises you do this by stepping back and letting him be the lead decision maker even if you don't agree with the decision. The author does point out that the women should be allowed to voice her opinion. He states that in the end, to teach her husband leadership, a wife should let the decision be his. Letting him be the final word in the family decisions will also help build his self-esteem.

The author repeatedly comments that praise and admiration are the best tools to having a healthy relationship with your husband. When your husband feels respected he will show you more respect. This book is funny at times, always easy to read and definitely filled with practical advice.

It's a keeper!

The Homecoming is a heartwarming story from start to finish. This book is a keeper.

Shawn Collins' grief is still fresh after the death of his wife, Elizabeth. But besides his grief, his greatest concern as a returning war hero is who will take care of his son, Patrick, when he is assigned to active duty representing the United States on a war bond tour.

Katherine Townsend, former Child Services representative, agrees to be Patrick's nanny. She has no problem loving Patrick as if he were her own. Her problem lies in guarding her heart from her increasing attraction to Shawn. Especially since he made it clear from the start that he wanted, "to keep this relationship very professional."

From the United States, to bomb torn London, and back to the United States the story of Shawn, Katherine, and Patrick is one of adventure, love, and inspiration.

Dan Walsh knows how to write a story that grips you and holds on to you until the very end. I look forward to reading his next book.

RAISING FINANCIALLY CONFIDENT KIDS is a book that all parents need to read - from start to finish - whether they are wise money managers or not. Children are growing up bombarded with commercials that credit cards can buy happiness--whatever you want. You can have it now. They don't tell you that you'll be paying hundred or thousands of dollars interest on your credit card debt if you don't pay it in full every month.

One of the most important lessons you can teach your child is basic financial skills. And for those who have credit card debt and student loan debt, they can involve their children in the paying down the debt, showing them how much interest they're paying...

Ms. Hunt shows us how she went from being a mom on the brink of financial ruin to someone who is now a money management expert. Whether your children are preschoolers or teens, this book has guidelines to help you teach them.

I was raised with a financially savvy mom and most of the things mentioned in this book is common sense. I'm trying to encourage my college age sons that they don't need credit cards, save their financial aid for needed items, don't spend it all in one place just in case they have car bills, etc. and I'm trying to teach my younger daughters that if we don't have the cash money for it we don't buy it.

If you are wanting your children to learn to manage money wisely, (and learn along with them) you will want to read RAISING FINANCIALLY CONFIDENT KIDS. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Step by Step Resource

I wanted to read this book for one main reason - to teach my children how to manage their finances. When I was a child, my parents never taught me; but there were a lot of things parents didn't teach their children that I am grateful we teach our children now!

I remember getting myself into trouble financially because I didn't want to tell my children I didn't have the money to buy something. Nowadays, I include them in the decision making. I teach them that we have a certain amount to spend on "us" over a two week period (my pay days) and when we choose to spend it all in the first week, we don't have anything left to spend in the second. It's truly amazing how they accept the idea and we move on to doing something that's free. We are learning to enjoy what we have together.

I love the way this book breaks down age appropriate teachings, but doesn't forget to mention that every family is different (and every plan can be personalized to fit your individual family!). I also like the step by step processes, lists, and question and answer sections.

I became a grandmother this past Friday evening (August 10th) and plan to pass this book on to my son and his wife. To be honest, they could teach me a thing or two about finances - they are extremely disciplined and have already mentioned their intention of teaching their daughter how to be financially responsible.

Thought-provoking

After reading Mrs. Hunt's book, I decided to start my teenagers on the financial plan she suggests--which basically involves giving THEM the money I would normally spend on them ANYWAY in a month's time and allowing them the freedom to manage it. Scary? Definitely! It's working great for my responsible, thrifty daughter--not so great for my immature, spend-every-dime-I-get son. As she says in the book, though--I have to keep my mouth shut and give him time to figure it out. I was not in any way prepared to handle my own finances even after I graduated from college. I do not want my children to make the same mistakes. So...trying Hunt's method was certainly worth considering. I guess "time will tell" if it worked or not?
