An absolute MUST for every person. When we think of loss, we can tend to limit it to the loss of a loved one. However we may have lost our lifestyle which we were so comfortable with, our home, lost our dreams, our passions, our motivation for life, our job, forcing us too accept realities that are painful, which paralyse us from moving forward, bringing out anger, frustration and depression. Unless these losses are effectively dealt with, it will be hard to move forward and embrace the new things that lie before us. This book is an excellent tool in equiping a person through the grieving process towards wholeness and new strength. A book for life!

Excellent book!

I found this book at the lowest point of a break up/not break up session with my ex boyfriend. Long story short, he was telling me he wanted me back, but not until he did some dating around. I was stuck in pain and depression, wanting him back, but not wanting to wait around for him to do his thing. Reading this book helped me to understand that it is a loss, even if there is some sort of hope for a future. It was Biblically based without cramming religion down your throat. I wrote down so many quotes in my journal from this book, I probably should have bought it instead of checking it out from the library! Anyway, this book helped me to make the decision to remove myself from my exboyfriend's life to let him make his choices without them affecting me.

quick impression, and comparison

Bought this book and Charlie Walton's "When there are no words..." as possible gifts to friends in shock and grief over the sudden death of an adult child. Scanned the two books quickly & decide to give the Walton to the guy and this one to his wife. "When there are no words" is a quite short and 'straight from the shoulder' account of Walton's struggles, observations and advice following the sudden, tragic death of his son. Wright's book is a good deal longer and deals with a whole range of "losses in life" situations. A basic Christian perspective is evident in the author's analysis and discussion of these matters.
p.s. so far (about a month) haven't had a response to the books from either recipient, so I suggest care in prescribing them!

No way, not me....?

After seeing those ultimate couponer's on TV, I thought, `No way, not me.'

Well, I definitely won't be taking it as far as those extremists do, but this book was a great encouragement to find what I feel comfortable doing and challenged me to look into easy ways to take it a step further.

I did learn two really interesting things that will be changing the way I do my shopping. First, stores have pricing cycles. Any particular item can fluctuate in price, so you get the same exact item at a different cost depending on when you buy it. That same box of Cheerios can range in price during a month's time from $2.00 to $3.50. Price watching can automatically save you money even before you pull out a coupon. If you use a coupon when those Cheerios are at the bottom of its pricing cycle then that item goes even lower. Wow.

Secondly, I need to stock up on these great deals for when the great deals aren't available. We will always need toilet paper (true dat), so when it is at the bottom of the pricing schedule and I have ten coupons, I need to buy ten of them. This is an uncomfortable place for me. I do not need ten of these right now, but I will in the upcoming weeks use them all, so why not buy them at their lowest possible cost??? A little pre-planning and a bit of closet space will save me in the long run and ultimately lower my grocery bill each week.

So now I only have one question for you...... How low can YOU go?

No Nonsense--Common Sense Couponing

What a relief! Someone who shows people how to use coupons like a normal person, not someone on a TV show! Kasey did a great job of explaining a realistic approach to couponing and how to break it down into a way that works for real people. If you're looking to save money without looking like a crazy person or talking five-hour-long shopping trips to stock pile random crap you won't ever use THIS is the book for you! Excellent.

Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Couponing Book

This book is not like any other couponing book you will find. It is so much more! Kasey Knight Trenum has the most honest, humorous and, at times heart-warming perspective on couponing. She admits that she doesn’t “like” couponing but explains how it is simply a means to help provide for her family.

This book is the perfect tool for beginning couponers. Kasey has a great way of explaining every aspect of couponing in a simple to understand manner while at the same time sharing her own light-hearted stories that provide insight to all the information she is giving you. You will find yourself learning and laughing, even sometimes crying all at the same time!

Kasey walks you through each step of couponing from where to get the coupons, organizing your coupons, how to use them, what to buy, where to buy and even how to store the abundance of food you will inevitably acquire through couponing all while saving your family money!

Unlike a lot of “extreme couponing” books, shows and/or websites Kasey stresses the need for morals, ethics and integrity when couponing which is, in my opinion, sorely lacking in the world in general not just when shopping. She teaches how she has saved so much money for her family that it has allowed her to give to people in need and encourages us to do the same.

I believe this book will not only change your family’s financial situation but will also teach you how to find peace when faced with economic instability and hardships.

Disappointing

I have two sons (one autistic, one neuro-typical) and understand what it is like to parent a child like Elizabeth. Ms. Breen is amazing in that she has maximized the potential of her two autistic children, provided a stable and loving environment for her neuro-typical child, and managed to hang on to her VC job and multiple directorships. I am not sure about her marriage as the husband gets almost no mention.
This is what I liked about the book. (My perspective is affected by reading about 50+ books and blogs about parenting autistic children). 1. The main point - nonverbal child gets a voice is inspiring for many parents. The depth of Elizabeth's poetry demonstrates how much unrecognized (and often unrealized) potential autistic kids have. 2. The account of navigating through the school system is useful as well. 3. It shows that access to resources (good school system and personal funds to hire aides, fund ABA, Soma's camp, etc.) makes an enormous difference in autistic kids' outcomes. 4. It validates the effectiveness of Soma's method by showing a reasonable outcome. (All those books telling you that ABA and GFCF diet cured kids of autism in 6-12 months are an insult to the parents with more severely affected children. )
This is what I found disappointing. 1. At times, the book is more about the mother than the child. I understand Ms. Breen's need to make her good deeds known to the world, but I bought the book to learn about Elizabeth, not her. That said, I would've liked to see more details about Elizabeth's progress, the mechanics of using the letterboard in the classroom, or even Ms. Breen's honest account of professional and marital challenges as I am sure one of those areas, if not both, had to take a hit.
In summary, the book is mis-marketed: it is sold as Elizabeth's story, but padded very heavily with Ms. Breen's adventures and loosely related stories about `how people' with much of it done in a very religious/Christian tone. Two stars.

I Am in Here is inspiring

I rated this book 5 stars. I read it on my Kindle. I found it profoundly moving and bought the hard cover book. Every educator, every board of education, every student from 7 th grade on up, and parents of autistic children NEED to read this book. It is inspiring, heart breaking, hopeful and a testament to the will of the children and parents who do not give up, but fight every day to find the key to unlock the door to autism. It should be a gift from every Board of Education to every teacher and administrator in every school district. I Am in Here

reminds you to hold on to hope

I had the opportunity to meet Elizabeth and her mother recently at an Autism Speaks walk in New Jersey. This book gives me hope that my 5 year old autistic daughter will someday find her own "voice" in whatever way works for her. It is also a reminder that you should never underesimate what intelligence and feelings lie within the brains and hearts of those with autism.

Great Book!

This book has been a TREMENDOUS help for me!! I have really been able to recognize myself over and over again throughout the pages. Although some examples are to do with dating I still was able to recognize the main problem/idea and use it for myself. It was really important to me to be able to understand why I was reacting in certain ways and Mr. Lemon helped me to see this. Also, when everyone in your family just acts a certain way it is hard to know how anyone else would normally and healthily react. I am very glad to have a good example to follow.
I really enjoy reading Kevin Lemon's books - even though I was given this book for Valentine's Day from my husband. This would probably NOT be something Mr. Lemon would recommend - perhaps we ought to read his book "Sex Begins in the Kitchen"! However, this has really been a terrific gift and I have been able to improve many things in my life. I am so thankful and we are all better for it! I certainly did not want to pass down any of my bad habits/reactions to my children and so now I can gladly say that I won't!
Being a "defeated perfectionist" is certainly no fun and I'm glad that I have been able to get away from that more and more and live life much more fruitfully.

Very Strong Offering beneficial to Many

Dr Leman is best known for his book regarding birth order and its effect upon personality and characteristics and so I expected this book to be good and I was not disappointed.

It is ironic, but the fact is that many underachievers are in fact not lazy, but people capable of excellence who have determined on some level that it is safer to gaurd against being judged by others by engineering circumstances in their lives, jobs and relationships to where other elements can be blamed, at least in the mind of that person, and they are insulated from the terrible judgement that they somehow are just not capable people.

I was struck as I read this with Dr Leman's ability to tie in a great deal from the the field of cognative behavioral therapy which has moved treatment beyond a Freudian or Jungian approach that may provide insight as to how someone has become a defeated perfectionist, but offered precious little on what to practically do about it. Dr. Leman quotes from and includes many broad themes from this field, with several direct references to Dr. David Burns who is a leader in this field.

Issues such as self-talk and coaching are addressed well and within the grasp of the average reader in an easy to read and entertaining manner.

Well worth the read. Consider it a practical read for self-coaching. It would make a good introduction to this area of behavioral therapy and should be followed up with Dr. Burns' material for those that find themselves benefitting and wanting more.

Cathartic!!!

This book touched a lot of nerves in my heart and I found it revealing and cathartic. I highly recommend it to anyone who might be affected by upbringings that left them immobilized and intensely scarred. This book really helps...in a massive kind of way that takes your breath away and makes you realize you CAN, with a great deal of patience and a lot of gentle guidence, learn to heal yourself!

A fantastic, larger-than-life, bittersweet, beautifully written historical romance

Mrs. Frantz takes us, the reader, through an accurately portrayed voyage in the course of an important moment within our own history in The Colonel's Lady. This is a story of love, sorrow, hope, and struggles of our brave men and women faced daily in the late 1700's in Kentucky. This is Roxanna Rowan and Cass McLinn's story. I don't want to give too much of the story and plot away but....

Roxanna travels to Kentucky to surprise her father, the only person she has left to her, after her mother's death and her fiancé left her for another woman. But instead of the surprise she dreamed of she was faced with heartache... her father was dead and she has lost everything left to her, including any means to live and support herself when she lost everything to the raging river, the same river that was to take her to her father.

At Fort Endeavor she meets Colonel Cass McLinn, who has promised her father that he would look after his daughter. To keep this promise he gives Roxanna her father's old job and a place to live. During the course of keeping his promise he gains more than he gives when God bestows upon him more than he ever thought or dreamed possible.

This is a very well written story of loss and the struggles men and women faced daily on the frontier yet it is also a story hope and love. If you are a lover of romance, this is the book for you. If you are a lover of history, this is a book for you. If you are a lover of God, this is a book for you. Or if you are just a lover of fantastically written stories than this is the book for you. Share Roxanna and Cass' journey, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely Story!!

This is the first book that I have read from this author and it was amazing. I really enjoyed the story line and the characters. I have really developed a love of historical fiction and this book gave me a glimpse into early America, primarily in the undeveloped areas of Kentucky. I loved the hero and heroine and how their romance grew. It was really a page turner for me. I highly recommend this book.

A continuation of the great Christian heritage of our nation

Once I read The Light and The Glory with my children, I knew that their education in American history would not be complete without this book. We were not disappointed. This book continues the narration of the great Christian heritage of the USA. As the settlers struggled to carve out a nation and our fledgling country grappled with issues between ourselves, our neighboring countries, and the Native American nation within our new boundaries, faith in God prevailed. The evidence for perseverence in faith is an inspiration to my children when they face daily struggles that are not as monumental. "Review" questions stimulate deep thought about the moral responsibility each one of us has to our country and our God. As with the first book, this is a great character building tool for our future citizens.

Peter Marshall books are A++++++

My oldest girls and I read this series, The Light and the Glory and From Sea to Shining Sea, together for American History. My younger daughter and I will do the same, plus I've bought the younger versions and activity books to go with them. We met Mr. Marshall when he visited our area years ago. He is a dedicated American and believer. The information he gathered from our government archives is truth rarely seen in American History books or heard in classrooms. It is forgotten truths straight from the historical documents put together in such an interesting read. It is heart warming and heart breaking and leaves you in awe of God.

Not impressed

As a Christian and a homeschooler for a decade now, I am not impressed. I had heard good things about these books but was very disappointed. The books are dry and some subject matter not appropriate for kids. Ex: There is a story in The Light and the Glory about how a man was excommunicated from his pilgrim congregation because he committed adultery. That might be okay for middle schoolers to discuss but not young children.
Also, from a theological stand point, I dont like how they add things from God's point of view. How can man know the mind of God? For example pointing out that bad weather was God's way of punishing them for disobeying. That is ridiculous.
Dont waste your time with this book. You would do better with Beautiful Feet books.
