I liked the characters, story, and historical elements.

Love's Sweet Beginning is the third book in Shorey's "Sisters at Heart" series. Having previously read and enjoyed the first two books, I was looking forward to this story and I really liked it!
Cassie's character was very interesting. I liked how she grew as a person and started to take control of her life and make her own choices. I also liked Jacob and his other employees.
I liked how Love's Sweet Beginning had a little bit of intrigue in the story. It was fun trying to guess what had happened in some of the characters' pasts.
Like the second book in this series, I liked how this story included the main characters from the previous books. It's always nice to see what's going on in the lives of characters from previous novels. That's one of my favorite things about series. :) The only problem I had was that it's been a while since I've read the other books, so it was a little difficult to try and remember who everyone was.
All in all, Love's Sweet Beginning was an enjoyable read. I liked the characters, story, and historical elements. If you enjoy historical romance novels, I think you'll like this book.

which makes it nice. HOWEVER if you do read them all then ...

This is the third and last book in the Sisters at Heart series. You don't have to read them in order or any of the others to understand what is going on in this book, which makes it nice. HOWEVER if you do read them all then you understand more of what each character feels and thinks. Ms Shorey did a WONDERFUL job with this series. If you enjoy watching tv shows such as Little House on the Prairie and Dr. Quinn then you will enjoy these books. She starts with main characters in the first book and a few minor characters that you start to enjoy and 'know'... then in the second book she takes one of those minor characters and makes her into a main character and then in this last book she did that again. Taking a minor character and making her a major one.
I checked this book out without even reading what it was about because I had read the other two and wanted to finish the series. When I did read who the main character was I was in doubt as to how good this book was going to be...but I was pleasantly surprised and found myself staying up later than usual to read another chapter.
If you need-want a low stress book to read and enjoy. Something to bring yourself into that time period and that town these are the books for you. Ms Shorey mixes just enough Faith and God into the mix to give us Christians a reminder of when we're down, or expecting something in life, or whatever that God is always there for us. But she didn't put to much into it that a non Christian would feel 'overwhelmed' with it

6 month historical adventure in 1868 Missouri

If a book fails to quickly grab, I toss it aside. "Love's Sweet Beginning" hooks fast. Civil War ear is an enchanting time for romance, adventure, and all things historical. Shorey's story characters encounter situations period-typical; but also emotions as old as the ancients--as contemporary as my own family. Worthy of a second read.
Hard times in post-Civil War's adjustment catches genteel Cassie unprepared and suddenly learning to make a living as kitchen help in the restaurant side of West & Riley's Grocery. Her stunning beauty and ineptness catches the eye of Jacob West, the working partner of the firm. A man with a secret problem that he'd hoped his move out west would cause to dissipate.
Ann Shorey is one historical author that creates a fun backward transfer into time. Her words cause you to breathe the dusty air of post-war life. It also causes hearts to flutter with romance as the folk of those days, weary of death and loss, desire renewal of life and love.
A very desirable DVD series arrived in my mail just after beginning this book. Which to spend time with was no issue, as I could not put this book down until every enthralling page was read.
