At the first practice of each season, legendary coach John Wooden taught his players how to put on their socks and shoes a very particular way. When asked about this, he replied, "The little things matter. All I need is one little wrinkle in one sock to put a blister on one foot--and it could ruin my whole season. I started teaching about shoes and socks early in my career, and I saw that it really did cut down on blisters during the season. That little detail gave us an edge." Coach Wooden knew the long-term impact of little things done well.
Now Pat Williams takes Coach Wooden's lesson, along with stories of people whose lives have exemplified the importance of little things done well, and shows readers how the small things one does or doesn't do drastically affect one's integrity, reputation, health, career, faith, and success. People who want to do their best in life, family, work, and faith will benefit from this entertaining and inspirational book.

Oh, the Little Things...
By Terry MacDonald
When asked what his secret was, the thoughtful Coach Wooden said it was having a lot of things done well. This eureka moment for author Pat Williams inspired him to write this fabulous book about how versatile this idea is in life. Guidance to be mindful is found in many self-help books, but this seems to be a new theme for a book of the sports genre. If this was how John Wooden coached the UCLA Bruins to the top, with an unprecendented 88 game winning streak, I'll take it!
In this well-written book, Williams reveals how keeping focus on the little things have played pivot roles in the success of sports and business. He says that it "safeguards your character and produces habits of consistency and excellence in your life." Look at how it worked for Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, and of course, John Wooden!
This book is great for all audiences, but especially those gearing up for success. There are some great ideas that are small enough to work into your life by powerful enough to make a big difference. I have mixed several tips from Wooden with advice from Training Soccer Champions into my coaching techniques and have already seen their ability to give us the winning edge.

Great Read
By Nik
This was a well written book, although some may not like that a lot of points were repeated throughout, it doesn't take away from some of the important lessons you can take away. I have applied some some of the ideas already to my work and my life and they are helping already. The other thing I found most useful about this book is that it doesn't try to change your ideas, system or philosophy of how you do things like some other coaching books do. All Wooden asks is that you look deeper in how you do things and to look at the smaller details that will make up the ultimate goals you want to achieve. One of the best books on coaching I have read.

In The teaching ethos coach was deeply cherished.
By Jim Serger
Lacing your shoes correctly, putting on socks correctly, showing up on time, dressing for success. Those seem so small, yet in a world of a champion they mean the world--they separate the good from the great. Coach won ten national championships, yet players look back on him and see him as a teacher, philosopher, poet, devoted husband and most of all they see him as a friend whom they admire deeply. The author, Pat Williams did an outstanding job bringing the little items coach did day in and day out to the forefront of this awesome book. The author who has written two other books on coach, got to see first hand in his multiple interviews with coach how he touched the hearts and minds of those he came in contact with both as a coach, teacher and as a normal person. This book shares with us, how other successful people do the little things and have done them well to achieve greatness. Lou Holtz, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs--all focus on the little and big things happened. READ this book, for you will read it again and you will see the power of the little things done well; lead to excellence. This is not just a book for sports, this is a book for teachers, employees, owners, CEO's and so many more. Your library will appreciate your addition, for this little book will bring new thinking to your everyday life. The potential of greatness is achieved through the small things. 5 stars on this book and I recommend you read his other two as well--the author knows his leadership and his basketball.
