About the Author
Ron Kincaid is the pastor of Sunset Presbyterian Church, where he has served as the senior pastor for more than thirty years. The church began with 25 people in 1981 and has grown to a community of 5,000. Ron is the author of four previous books and a popular speaker at retreats and conferences. He and his wife, Jorie, live in Portland, Oregon.

A Practical Guide For A Deepened Prayer

Prayer Dare is a simple, but not trite, guide for daily prayer. With 3-4 page daily readings that progressively build upon each other, the book gives a very practical way to develop patterns of prayer. I've truly just started to work through Prayer Dare, but I already find myself looking forward to the next day's reading and keeping a journal of reflections and prayers. That discipline has always been a challenge personally, so a tool like this book is a welcome assistant in growing spiritually. There are short daily bible passages as well, which the reader would do well to use as starters, not the whole reading for the day. Great for small groups, families, churches. I'm looking forward to our church working through Prayer Day together very soon.

Take The Challenge!

This is a good guide to jump-start a life of prayer. If readers accept the challenge, they will pray more effectively and make prayer a daily routine rather than an occasional desperate plea for help. Ron Kincaid challenges readers to engage in simple exercises to strengthen their understanding of the purpose of prayer and the Scripture supporting it. Mr. Kincaid then asks the reader to record his or her personal experiences with prayer. This is a great aid in helping the reader make time for prayer and “exercise” his or her soul!

Grows your prayer life, BUT, some questionable views on God's Grace.

Overall, I think it was a good book. He challenges you to think about prayer in new ways that enrich your prayer life if you choose to really apply them. What I didn't like was, there were times that he, perhaps in an attempt to make a funny analogy, implied things about God that I don't personally believe and I know most church's do not include in their belief system. For instance, he was talking about a bible verse that essentially says, "If you obey God, you can ask for anything". His analogy, was coming home from work and finding an enormous trail of clutter and mess that has son had left throughout the house and a number of chores he had ignored. His question was, "would that be a good time for my son to ask to borrow the car?". Funny yes, but it implies that we earn our way into God's grace, which I don't personally believe. There are 40 days of these prayer dares, and about once a week I came across something that like that. I personally found the book overall beneficial, and I just skipped over some of those parts, but we chose NOT to use it in a bible study at our church because we felt those passages would send a confusing message to people about Grace.
