Leah Breckenridge finds herself at the end of her rope in the fall of 1920 after first burying her husband and then her young son. Out of options, Leah and her six-year-old daughter become dependent on the mercy of an aunt whom neither of them have ever met. Shaken by the hand that she feels she has been dealt, Leah is angry with God and has all but decided that she is completely alone in this world. To top it all off, Leah is haunted by a recurring nightmare about a train, a vision that leaves her panting on the floor or utterly paralyzed with dread. Kelly skillfully lays the trestle for an emotional look into the past in the hope of moving forward to a better future. Through Leah’s journey on the road to healing, Kelly’s tale inspires readers to believe what we all hope for: that redemption is available for all and that it can reside in unsuspecting places. --Elizabeth Ponder

I read this book after the Author, Leisha Kelly died
By jheck46
I had previously read Julias Hope, and loved it. I had no idea the author, Leisha Kelly lived near me. Sadly, Leisha and her 16 year old son were killed a few days ago in an auto accident. When their deaths were on the news, it mentioned that she was an author. The book is excellent. I loved this book and Julias Hope. I am going to read the other 6 also. How sad that she is no longer with us. She was a truly talented writer.

Outstanding Offering from Leisha Kelly!
By Susan Snodgrass
I have read every one of Leisha Kelly's books and never once have I been disappointed in the least. This one is no exception. She deals with every emotion known to man, I think, in this book. Leah and her daughter come to live with Marigold McSweeney, an aunt of her husband's because she has nowhere else to go. Imagine yourself alone with a 6 year old child with no job and nowhere to live. What a burden to carry. Leah is struggling with nearly insurmountable grief and a horrifying fear of trains, with no idea why she is so afraid of them. She meets Josiah at the train station and it appears he is going to be a regular fixture in her life, but Josiah has nearly insurmountable problems of his own and he doesn't need her in his life, either. Leah has grown distant from God and desires no regular contact with God.
Leisha Kelly knows how to draw her readers into the lives of her characters and cause the reader to feel the same emotions as they do. I will not give out anymore details to the ones reading this review, so as not to ruin the book for them. Kelly draws her readers into how it hurts so much when God doesn't make everything right when they've gone wrong. Then we see how God has been standing there all along, waiting, loving, trusting and wooing us back to Him. She is not afraid to bring out the truth of Scripture, as some are today who write supposed Christian fiction.
I shed many tears reading this book. It is worth every cent of the purchase price. I hated for it to end and I wanted to read it quickly to find out what happened. Now I am left hungry for another of Kelly's books. This is an outstanding book and not to be missed.
