Transparent Heart Full of Love

I am in the midst of reading this book and it feels as if I am progressing into a heart full of love, the beautiful love that Jesus expresses for all of God's children. The book is well written, as one would expect, and draws one in to truly know the author both in his strengths and weaknesses. The book has the feel of a wise friend giving advice that he has thoroughly tested in his life. He is not in any way demanding that you see things his way, but he is gracious in giving to the readers his best thoughts on how to live life fully. I thoroughly appreciate this book and already have found some application of its wisdom in my life.

When you're surrounded with high maintenance people

While looking for something different to read along with my Bible during daily devotional time, I uncovered two sparkling gems. Reading a chapter a day in each of two Cec Murphey books gave just what I needed to stir up my spirit. The titles are Invading the Privacy of God (copyright 1997) and Knowing God, Knowing Myself (copyright 2010). Although I'm fairly certain it wasn't Murphey's plan, I discovered these two books are superb companions. Together, they effectively present practical applications for what Jesus called the Greatest Commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these," Mark 12:30-31, NIV.
Invading the Privacy of God presents marvelous insights into the nature, character, and attributes of God. Knowing God, Knowing Myself presents insights from a seasoned Christian who has learned how to successfully live with and understand the people around us. They report the experiences of a deeply seasoned child of God who faithfully follows his Lord along this winding pathway we call life.
Murphey peppered these books with biblical references applicable to everyday life and circumstances. When I finished reading them, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had underlined text and written personal notes and insights in the margins on at least one page of every chapter.
Whenever I stumble upon books with exceptional insights, I place the titles and page numbers next to relevant verses in my Bible. You may be interested to know that Murphey's books are now cataloged in my Bible.

A regret

Cec Murphey is a person that once you meet him, you want to know more about him. I first met Cec at a Writer's workshop. I will forever regret that I have not had another time to learn from him, to sit under his aura of surprise, laughter, tears, and exceptional ability to motivate a person to become better. He shows a person how to reach outward in spite of one's fears and feelings of inadequacy. Cec is a transparent, guileless man whose integrity and honesty inspires me. This book is one to share but at the same time, to be read over and over again, especially with someone you love. I respect you Cec. I never think of you without a prayer of appreciation for all you have taught me. "Knowing God, Knowing Myself" continues to teach me.
