Not the book for me

As someone who enjoys celebrating holidays or any other day, I was excited about this book. I was hoping to get some new ideas for celebrating all year and having someone else do the work for me! After reading Everyday Confetti, though, this isn't the book for me.
While I definitely found a few nuggets in this book, I didn't walk away feeling like I was ready for a year of celebrations. Some pretty major holidays/occasions (i.e., Easter) only offered two or three suggestions. Then there were a lot of minor or made up holidays that were listed with only a couple of suggestions that would require quite a bit of research, thought, or creativity to pull something together. Other times the suggestions just weren't that creative. For instance, the suggestion for both Black History Month and Cinco de Mayo was to read a book about the topic and learn more about the reason for these holidays—but no books were suggested, nor discussion questions or other activities to make it fun. Personally, I would have preferred a shorter list of holidays/occasions and more thorough, creative, and fun ideas about how to celebrate the holidays that were included. Since this is a Christian book, I also wished that there was a spiritual tie-in for each holiday. Some of the holidays included this type of connection, but many did not.
The three sections that were the best were Valentine's, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. These were the most complete sections and thought some of the ideas listed might be things I could incorporate into my family celebrations.
While some may appreciate this book for what it offers, I think many readers will be frustrated. People who are super busy, overwhelmed by Pinterest, short on time, and/or less creative than they'd like to be—the people I think this book is written for—will most likely be disappointed by the lack of complete information and suggestions provided in Everyday Confetti. [2 stars]

Looking forward to a year full of celebrations!

I love this book from cover to cover, including everything in between! I really like to celebrate days and make certain days more special than others. However, I'm not good at it and am horrible at planning for them and who has the time to really research those ideas? Pinterest helps some, but in all honesty, those ideas I pin stay on the wall. I don't anticipate this ideas given in the book will stay in this book. I'm already plotting out my first holiday, which will be Valentine's Day. I can't wait to use this book through the years. I hope it's one of those books I'll want to pass down to my children when they ask, "Mom, where did you get all those ideas to make the holidays so memorable for us?"
I can't think of a singe holiday that this book doesn't cover. It has it all, including Backwards Day, Left-Handers Day, and Book Lover's Day (on which this book would be the perfect gift for someone).
I like how it covers everyday celebrations, such as spiritual birthdays, reaching out to others, birthdays, and everyday moments. It also has all of the holidays, from the well-known days to the lesser-known days.
There are lots of recipes to try during these celebrations and I can't wait to try them. They all look so good and rather easy. My favorite part though are the ideas of how to make these days special, from notes to presents to ideas to parties. They are simple and not horribly involved and are things that I think I can easily manage.
2014 just got a little sweeter and I'm looking forward to making some fun memories with my little ones this year that will leave them in anticipation of what comes next!

It's the beginning of a new year. Why not make it a year of everyday celebrations? Authors Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer make it easy for busy moms on the go that sometimes need a few ideas to pull off that perfect party or even just a perfect day. Everyday Confetti gives readers ideas about how to make every day special from the regular family celebrations like Easter and Christmas to the perfect Wednesday. With ideas for new traditions, great recipes and plenty of tips for making every day just right, this book will inspire and entertain readers who need that extra creative push.
What I liked:
Many of you know that I don't review very much non-fiction material on my blog. But every once in awhile I come across something that really gets me excited and Everyday Confetti is one of those books. Both authors are part of the Proverbs 31 ministry team and I knew this book would have a Christian perspective and have the interests of women at the forefront. I don't know about you, but sometimes I need an idea to work with when it comes to celebrating special moments in the lives of my family. We have family traditions that span generations but I want to do something special with my daughters that is just ours. Our own traditions and that's where this book comes in. It has ideas and recipes that I never even thought of before. It's nice to have a fresh set of ideas to consider.
I love celebrations of any kind. And I loved the whole idea of being able to turn other days besides those red letter days on the calendar into a party. I want my children to have special memories of things we did together that maybe everybody else didn't do. I like to be unique in that way... LOL. There are so many good ideas in this book. And the recipes are easy with simple ingredients anyone can find at the store. I don't want to be going around looking for some off the wall ingredient when I could spend that time with my loved ones.
Overall this was just a very practical guide to making holidays and everyday something special. Some people need a little push when it comes to creativity and lets face it, working moms probably don't even time to think about things like that, so I thought this was a much needed book for moms on the go.
I also loved the personal stories and experiences that the authors added from their own lives. It made me realize that I'm not the only one who wants to do things that my kids will remember a long time from now. I have those kinds of memories and I want that for them too.
What I didn't like:
It was way too short. I wanted more ideas, more recipes, more tips. Okay, so maybe I'm being a big greedy. But it was just that good.
Bottom Line:
If you're looking for inspiration or you just want to do something you've never done before. Give this book a look when thinking about celebrating holidays, spiritual milestones and even a perfect Tuesday. It's a real gem.
