Handy resource for those difficult mom moments.

"God is there in every busy, exhausting, and exhilarating moment of being a mom," says the back cover of Always There, a MOPS ministry supported collaborative project featuring the writing of Amy Parham, Ann Voskamp, Hayley DiMarco, Kathi Lipp, Kim Hill, Renee Swope, and other Christian-mom contributors. Always There is a collection of essays on finding God in the details of motherhood, with a short space for reflection after each piece. I enjoyed the ease of read here, that I could flip a page open while the coffee brewed or the bathtub filled and get a touch of inspiration and maybe a laugh or two.
As an editor myself working on my own collaborative project with many authors, I sympathize with the difficulty of maintaining continuity with so many different voices. Still, I found that this resource was lacking mainly in organization. It felt a little like already-written blog posts and magazine articles were just filed together in no particular order and bound with a pleasing cover. In fact, I recognized some of the pieces as blog posts I'd already read from familiar authors. Still, it's a handy book to keep around for those frequent moments I find myself feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, or ill-equipped. There's nothing like knowing we're not alone in our toughest moments of motherhood.

God is there in every busy, exhausting, and exhilarating moment of being a mom.
ALWAYS THERE is a devotional for busy moms of preschoolers. It has a short verse, a story to go along with it, and a reflection for you to ponder as you go about your day. Ideal for moms on the go, it doesn't take much time, and will center your mind on God. This isn't a devotional for a deep feeding of the word, but more of a stolen moment snack.
Some of the stories made me cry, remembering the terror and joy of that first pregnancy... the fear when you realize your preschooler has vanished into a crowd and you don't know where to start looking... watching a baby morph into an adult... and other life events, including the acute pain of miscarriage.
I have five children (not counting three miscarriages) and while some of my children are now considered adults, I still can relate to the stories told in this book. Children are a blessing of the Lord, but some of the confusion, pain, disappointment that accompany them doesn't always seem holy. ALWAYS THERE reminds us that even in moments when you feel alone, God is ALWAYS THERE. Recommended for new moms and mothers of preschoolers.

An encouraging read for mothers of all ages

God is there every step of the way, from the first smile to the everyday feedings to those middle-of-the-night times. From the humorous to the solemn, these short devotions will capture moms' hearts as they reflect on their role as mothers and on their ever-present and steadfast God.
This is an encouraging book for mothers of all ages. There are inspirational and encouraging stories from mothers at each stage of life. I think new mothers especially have a hard time finding time to read things that are encouraging to them and this book has short, two to three page entries. The stories are focused on God constantly being in your life and allowing each of these funny, hard, silly or difficult experiences in your life to draw you closer to Him. I think this book does a great job of keeping our minds focused on God and allows us to laugh at ourselves or our family circumstances as we travel through them.
